Greetings DAAS Parents and Guardians,

It is with great pride that I announce our 6th Grade students will be moving to the Medbury Campus. We make this move with the full support of our 6th grade parents, students, staff, and administration. We would like to thank all who participated in our parent forum to discuss the move on August 25, 2011. We also thank all who came out to tour the Medbury Campus on August 30, 2011. It was because of your resounding support and acceptance of the facilities and curriculum that made this move possible.

As a result of this move we have divided our academic community into 3 separate houses; grades K-2, 3-5, and 6-8. We have given each house a distinct name to distinguish them by grade level. The K-2 house will be known as the Alexander Twilight House. This name is given in honor of the first African-American to graduate from college in the United States. Our 3-5 house will be known as the Fannie Richard House. This name is given in honor of the first African-American teacher employed by the Detroit Public Schools System. Finally, our 6-8 house is named in honor of our beloved president and wife; The Barack and Michelle Obama Leader Institute, or “OLI” for short.

Students will enjoy:

  • 75 minute classes
  • Allied Health with The Detroit Medical Center
  • Wayne State University Math Corp Program
  • Athletics: Middle School Girls and Boys Basketball, Co-ed Soccer, Cheer Leading, and  Volleyball

With this move we will be able to offer a full array of unique and dynamic electives unequaled in any Metro Detroit School District.
